Angel Inn
A glowing adornment to the top of Highgate Hill, the Angel is a quirky pub containing a wide selection of ciders, foreign beers in giant bottles and lots of bric-a-brac (garlands and a fish tank prop up the bar). Staff include a wildly ginger gentleman and a saucy-looking raven haired, fishnet-wearing barmaid. Decent grub, dark and cavernous corners and a generous stack of board games add up to a mellow experience but beware children, particularly on Sundays. Dogs welcome, and so are your pets. Good-looking locals are on hand for your viewing pleasure, and Eastenders fans can do a bit of Minty spotting – he's often spied keeping his gut in tip-top condition. Sarah Abedin
