The Bell and Compass
It doesn't look much from the outside, and things don't improve massively upon entering. Yet what it lacks in aesthetics, The Bell and Compass makes up for in atmosphere. The after-work buzz is just what you'd expect from the closest pub to Charing Cross station, but drinks prices are sufficiently astronomical for the privilege of sipping them so centrally. However, it's a homely spot, in which you'll want to stay awhile, rather than stopping off at the off license on the journey home after just one swift pint. Do beware the many lone drinkers propping up the bar. They're weird.
