The Monument

Joining a long list of celebrities refusing to age gracefully, the Monument's had a facelift. Despite the revamp, it remains one of London's underrated treasures. History boffins already know the column was erected to commemorate London's Great Fire in 1666, so the not-so-little lady's makeover is deserved. If the 360 degree span on the capital and piffling £3 ticket cost doesn't get you stomping Itchy-style, (311 steps to the summit) the prospect of a victory pint at the bottom might. If not, surely the lure of the new mesh platform 'cage' will? Bad news for those with vertigo or fat legs. Catharine Renwick
