May the lord make us truly thankful for cheap Sam Smith's beer and a filthy but pleasant ye olde booze hall to drink it in. Yes, it smells a bit funny; yes, it's full of old men who look like they'd sooner kneecap you with their peg-leg than give you the time of day; and yes, the high ceiling is a funny shade of entrail-purple and the knackered old tables are as wobbly as some of the patrons. But, when it comes to knocking back a few ales without being crammed in like thrifty, alcoholic cattle, they're hardly cardinal sins by comparison.
