Edgware Road just got at least 32% cooler. Mephisto is a godsend in this part of town, where a host of yummy but predominantly unlicensed Middle Eastern eateries stand hip-to-hip with the grimiest of sports pubs. This basement bar, discreetly tucked away next to Costa Coffee, is one end funky cocktail bar, the other, cosy reading-room. So, you can start the night making conversation over your cocktails and work your way backwards through the evolutionary diagram till you're picking your mates' fleas on the sofas.
