The Spice Shop
A curry addict's reverie. Home grown from a mere market stall set up in 1990 on Portobello Road, The Spice Shop has prospered and is now situated in petite premises just off the famous market street. The grotto-like shop is adorned with tins and bags of richly smelling herbs and spices in vibrant colours and offers a colossal range of 2,500 products. Having thrived on local support and the expert knowledge of owner Birgit Erath, this mini spice palace is one of a kind in the UK and now attracts famous TV chefs who come to gather inspiration from Birgit's self-made recipes. Tip: try the Raz el Hanout spice at £2.55 per bag – every seed they stock goes into making this spice, which gives a unique taste blast to a Moroccan Tagine. May your dishes never be dull again.
