Lady Luck is the most seductive night in Soho. Now we know that's a mighty big claim, considering the local competition of strip joints and street-corner pretty boys, but the fact of the matter is that Lady Luck is the femme fatale of Soho. It sashays through the scene and turns heads on the last Thursday of every month. Walking into the Walker Court venue, you feel like you've somehow slipped back into a seedier, sexier, sassier era. Look around, and you could be in an illegal 1920's speak-easy. What's more, as a drag queen eyes you up, you get the impression that everyone's here with someone they shouldn't be, doing something they shouldn't do, which only heightens the illicit atmosphere. The sex appeal doesn't stop there. Guys and gals are dressed in vintage clobber; girls have tiny waists and big, big breasts courtesy of corsets, while boys are swinging their thing in oxford bags and spats. The music is an eclectic mixture, often including a live band. Nino, the night's founder, describes the music policy using the words, 'jazz juice, mambo bop, latin cha cha and luscious lounge'. What that basically means is that the dance floor is jivin' all night long with crazy cats who know their jitterbug from their lindy-hop.
