Saffron
The small, almost cramped, reception area on the ground floor feels more English living-room than curry house. The art adorning the walls are inoffensive Pollock-esque canvases, rather than the usual startled tiger. Stairs lead up to an exclusive dining area, with drapes and colourful curtains, giving the impression that you're dining aboard a cruise ship. The food itself is utterly fantastic. Whether these are the best surroundings in which to scoff curry depends largely on whether you were born closer to Bradford than Basingstoke. A tip for visiting northerners: they don't serve lager in cans at four in the morning. Excellent curries.
