Island Restaurant

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Yes, in Itchy's book it's right up there with brunch, lunch, tea, supper and dinner. In fact we rate it so much that we recently decided to put our waistlines on the line to check out the new heavenly creation that is Island's three-course breakfast. God, we're good to you.

We arrived huffing and puffing like the fit specimens we are, having got lost taking a shortcut through Hyde Park – where we were almost mown down by rogue horses. Our stomach needed attention.

We'd better man/ woman up now and admit that we chickened out of all three courses, opting for the far more modest two. This was largely because when we saw the menu we were desperate to get to dessert and wanted to hurry things along

So, the first little slide down our slippery slope towards resembling an obese person in a fat suit was our 'main course'. Oh yes, lavish plates of breakfast burritos and eggs Benedict for Itchy and guest. The calorific mix of egg, potato and pepper with sides of salsa and sour cream really did hit the spot – though the egg did look a bit like the scramble you get at Maccy D's. But the Benedict - lets just say if our home-poached eggs resembled these wonderfully gooey orangey-yolked creations, we wouldn't be going out for brekkie.

The best bit though by far, quite aside from the extra bread basket and pastry selection, was definitely the dessert.

If we could meet the chef who made our banana, yogurt and lavender honey topped brioche we think we might be tempted to get down on one knee and beg him to marry us. Why, we never met a finer thing. Surely a sweeter than sweet breakfast creation like this deserves our unerring devotion.
